Vaporetto Stops and Schedule Change along Rio Cannaregio

The schedules for the vaporetto changes every summer to accommodate the influx of tourist and sunbathers. But this year there are more changes.

Work along the Rio Cannaregio to remedy one of the lowest areas in the city will effectively stop traffic through the canal. (This doesn’t make me happy because it is my easiest access to the vaporetto.)

This is the very busy Rio Cannaregio the main route from Piazzale Roma and the Train Station to Murano as well as the Alilaguna boat to and from the airport. But it is also a very low point in Venice with the area just by the Ponte delle Guglie. It is one of the places that flood like Piazza San Marco with every acqua alta disrupting the small fish market which opens on weekdays and generally causing pain for the locals.

This will begin in May and we have no idea how long it will take (it is projected to take 18 months….but who knows). It will also cause a great deal of pain for locals and tourists. (For me, it means I can’t just walk out of the apartment walk a few steps and catch the boat to Murano.) For the restaurants along the banks of the rio Cannaregio, it means disruption of supply deliveries, loss of customers. For tourists and locals going to the airport, this main thoroughfare will mean dragging luggage over bridges to get to another pickup location. Alilaguna has yet to publish a notice of where they will pick up the people from Cannaregio.

The ACTV (the transport company that runs the vaporetto service) has an interactive webpage which will show you which boats stop where So you can just click on the page and it will show you the boats. However they have not updated the website as of now for the change in service.

Given what has been published in the local newspapers, the map below is the closest I can give you. As soon as more is definitive, I will put out the updated information.
