If you are going to be in Venice in the next 18 (or so) months, know that there is a change in the vaporetto stops – a big one for those of us who use the Rio Cannaregio Canal Routes like the 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 5.2 and the 3.
The location of the boat stops is moving.

This will be confusing to you as a tourist, but trust me, locals are not happy about it either. Rio Canareggio is a vital link for many Venetians (and me) as I am quite happy just walking out the door and hopping on a vaporetto. But for the foreseeable future that is not an option. It now requires that I walk either to Sant’Alvise to go to Murano or Fdte Nove or back to the train station to the the hike shown in red. Well at least I can grab a cappuccino at Dal Mas!

So check this latest map out. You Can see that the Boat Stop at the Train Station, Ferrovia “D” which used to take you on the above routes no longer go to Murano, the 4.1 and 4.2 will not go further than Riva de Biasio (along the Grand Canal). Don’t get on it unless you know where you want to go along the canal, otherwise you will have to wait for a boat back to the train station (or climb the steps at the Scalzi Bridge).
If you want to go to Murano, be sure you wait for the 4.2 as you will eventually arrive at Murano after visiting several boat stops the next to last being Fdte Nove and last Cimitero. Then you stop for Murano will be Colonna.
No one loves change. And this is for about 18 months.
